Venice will get 106 hydrogen fuel cell buses

The Municipality of Venice will have more than EUR 87 million to purchase 106 hydrogen-powered and 33 electric vehicles for local public transport and build the relevant infrastructure. The funds will be made available through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRP), setting a clear timeframe for implementing the projects. The investment is to be completed by 30 June 2026, with an obligatory intermediate step involving the purchase and commissioning of 33 of these new vehicles by the end of 2024. In the meantime, the first hydrogen vehicles will use the HRS soon to be opened by Eni in Mestre.

Venice has chosen to focus on purchasing most of the new hydrogen vehicles, believing that this solution is the most suitable in the medium term for urban service. In this way, the vehicles will have a travel autonomy consistent with the average length of the routes.
