The Xunta de Galicia has expressed its future intention to integrate hydrogen fuel cell buses into its interurban public transport network to move towards its extensive implementation. The decision follows a successful test run and refuelling of the first hydrogen bus in Galicia from 7 to 23 March 2022. The bus travelled about 200 km per day on the A Coruña - Culleredo city centre bus line during the test.
The test has demonstrated the maturity of this technology and its capacity to contribute to decarbonising urban transport, both for people and goods, within the framework of the environmental and energy transition objectives facing large Spanish cities. During this test, another aspect that became clear is that refuelling with hydrogen is just as simple and quick as any other fuel, facilitating its intensive use.
